The kiss of life

We say very often that the right training combined to a proactive response is the key to avoid potentially hazard situation for life and environment.

We would like to share this powerful picture of 1967 called “The Kiss of Life, taken in 1967 by Rocco Morabito.

This picture shows utility worker J.D. Thompson giving mouth-to-mouth to co-worker Randall G. Champion after the latter went unconscious following contact with a low voltage line.

The two workers were performing routine maintenance when Randall accidentally touched one of the low voltage lines while on top of the utility pole.

He immediately went unconscious, but his safety harness prevented a fall. Quickly Thompson, reached Champion and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The rescuer was unable to perform CPR given the circumstances, but he kept doing the resuscitation until he felt a slight pulse, then unbuckled Champion’s harness and carried him down on his shoulders. Thompson and another worker administered CPR on the ground, and Champion was moderately revived by the time paramedics arrived, eventually making a full recovery.

Safety is not accidental, is a continuous journey.
